Elvis Presley - Quotation

“When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic book. I saw movies, and I was the hero in the movie. So every dream I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times...I learned very early in life that: ‘Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.' So I keep singing a song. Goodnight. Thank you.”
From his acceptance speech for the 1970 Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation Award. Given at a ceremony on January 16, 1971. (Elvis quotes from copyrighted material with lines from the song “Without a Song”.) taken from http://www.elvis.com/elvisology/quotes/byelvis.asp

The king of the rock music died of a heart attack 30 years ago, although some people think he was abducted by aliens and is still alive.

Did you know that he received his first guitar as a birthday present because his parents didn’t have enough money to buy him a bike? Was this a penniless situation or fate?

Is Scarlet Johansson blond or blonde?

She is blonde, but her hair is blond!

Confused?

Blond is masculine and blonde feminine.

Nevertheless, She has blond hair is allowed since blond refers not to she but to hair.

Writer of the month - James Finn Garner

"James Finn Garner was born in Detroit and grew up in the company town of Dearborn, Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan (where he won a Hopwood Award for one of his short plays), he moved to Chicago and worked in a number of jobs, including house painter, baker, warehouse clerk, public relations whipping boy, and editor of real estate appraisal publications. Seeking a creative outlet, he began to take improvisational comedy classes and terrorized various Chicago nightclubs for many years.

Politically Correct Bedtime Stories, Garner's first book, has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the U.S. and has been translated into 20 languages. It spent 65 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list. The runaway success of this book spawned two others, Once Upon A More Enlightened Time and Politically Correct Holiday Stories, both of which also appeared on the N.Y. Times list for extended runs. Other Politically Correct projects included calendars, computer games, and TV pilots. His most recent book is Recut Madness, which shows people from the far right and far left wings how to edit classic movie scenes to protect themselves from differing viewpoints."

Those who attended our English (Summer) Course will certainly remember tales like “Little Red Riding Hood” or “Snow Melanin-Impoverished and the Seven Vertically Challenged Persons”. Those who didn’t can find information on this author in
http://www.jamesfinngarner.com/ or in his blog http://www.jamesfinngarner.com/wordpress/

If you want to read his tales in Portuguese, you will find a translation in the Library of the ESEB. In English or in Portuguese, Finn Garner stories are excellent summer books.
